Social representations, new ideologies and societal problems
Research

This research line, of an intercultural nature, seeks to understand how ideas and ideologies are constructed as systems of representations. To fulfill such aim, investigations will deal with the new ideologies present in virtual social networks, media and everyday life. Such ideologies are associated with political and economic conflicts, corruption, religious conflicts, terrorism, immigration, separatism, etc. The social representations paradigm (SRP) shall be employed in its societal approach, as a complex system of ideas that sustain actions geared towards social tolerance or intolerance.

Social representations of environmental, social, and health risks
Research

Research deals with everyday theories and their implications for social practices related to environmental, social, and health risks. Environmental risks include both degradation and sustainability of environmental resources, and most especially the prevention of environmental disasters. Social risks are related to the phenomenon of social violence, as both family and urban violence. Health risks concern chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus type 2, AIDS, among others. Our aim is to understand the role of shared knowledge on risk and risk situations, from the perspective of Serge Moscovici’s Social Representations Paradigm (SRP), and draws its interface with studies on attitudes, behaviors, and subjective norms.
